Converse University Innovative Strategic Plan 2018-2023

Converse University’s strategic plan was created around a framework that is grounded in our Mission and Core Values. It is guided by our Vision to be nationally recognized as an excellent doctoral university, acclaimed as a center for creative thinking and learning and as a community that produces engaged citizens who effect positive change.

Three themes serve as pillars for the plan, in order to align mission-driven initiatives with market-driven demands: Vibrant Community, Academic Excellence, and Sustainable Future.

Fall 2020 Implementation of Co-Educational Component

We announced on April 28 that the Converse Board of Trustees unanimously approved the admission of men into the undergraduate residential cohort beginning in fall 2020, one year earlier than anticipated.

Converse College for Women

Dr. Chandra Owenby Hopkins was named as our first Dean of the Converse College for Women, effective July 1, 2021.

Athletics

On May 13, 2020 Converse announced its inaugural Esports athletics program, with the anticipation that the full Valkyries Esports team will be recruited for fall 2021. You can read more about the Esports program here.

March 9, 2020 Update

Four committees were formed to examine transition areas in depth and to provide reports and recommendations to the senior administrators at Converse and to the Board of Trustees.

The four committees included: Student Experience; Student Recruitment, Admissions, and Communications; Alumni, Donor, and Community Relations and Communications; and the Classroom Experience. Members of these committees represent Converse students, faculty, staff, alumnae/i, Board of Trustees and community members.

Planning Process

The strategic planning process took place throughout 2018. The first phase of the plan, outlined below, was announced in Fall 2018. Steps included research for each initiative to develop actionable plans, budgets, and timelines. The plan’s evolution continued over the next three years, and it reached completion in 2022.
